Kaido – Forest Paths

Walking from Kyoto Prefecture to the mountains of Omine to the south, one follows old roads, the kaido 道路, and hikes along forest paths. The wind in the bamboo groves and the solitude of the cedars on the mountain-sides calm the spirit. Amongst the healing energy of the trees and rocks, the internal chatter subsides and what remains is simply the present moment and each step along the way.

The book, Forest Paths, is a selected series from the longer project, Kaido: Walking to Ominesan and is produced by the artist in a handbound edition of 4 copies. Copy #1 is held by the Scott Library Special Collections, York University, Toronto.
